PUBLIC SECTOR ACCOUNTABILITY: JIGAWA TO TRACK DELIVERY OF GOVERNMENT PRIORITIES
Jigawa State Government has declared its intention to sustain ongoing reforms and accelerate the socio-economic development of the state. Speaking at a 2-day Executive Council retreat which held on the on Monday, 18th & Tuesday, 19th September 2023 in Kaduna State, Governor Umar Namadi, FCA stated his administration’s commitment to deliver on its promises to the people of Jigawa. This retreat was facilitated by PERL, in collaboration with other FCDO programmes.
Strategies for implementing the administration’s development agenda and creating a pathway for accelerating sustainable development of the state were extensively deliberated upon at the retreat.
The retreat marked a significant milestone in public service accountability, with the Governor issuing an official directive to initiate a Performance Management System with the support of PERL. This system aims at monitoring the delivery of his mandates and ensuring that all members of his team are actively engaged in the delivery process. The Governor envisions that this step will create an avenue to reinforce essential reforms aimed at enhancing service delivery and expediting the state's socio-economic development. He therefore charged all political appointees and heads of agencies, to leave no stone unturned in ensuring that their sector deliverables are achieved. PERL plays a significant role in translating the Governor’s development agenda into an implementation framework that can be tracked and appraised.
The National Programme Manager of PERL, Mr. Ifeanyi Peters Ugwuoke, commended the Governor for his foresight in coming up with a development agenda for its administration and pledged the support of PERL to support its implementation. The retreat had in attendance the Governor, His Deputy, members of the Executive Council, leadership of the State Assembly and development partners.
