Facilitate Education partnership Advocacies for full implementation of Girl child   

policies/ guidelines in the state – PERL used an informal relationship and secured an appointment from the commissioner of Education for the Girl Education partnership for an advocacy visit, where they presented findings from the 2021 Education Sector findings as it relates to Girl Education Initiatives, to solicit for the provision of girls specific Budget related activities, gaps and opportunities on gaps and opportunities from the policies (FCBPE Policy, Kano State Girls’ Education Policy, Inclusive Education Policy). The advocacy messages were presented to the Commissioner, led by the co-chair citizen wing, where she expressed the partnership concerns on the following;

  1. drafted Policies for onward re -introduction to the state executive The need to facilitate the passage of the drafted policies earlier supported by PERL to fast track (Teacher Policy and Girl Child Education policy).
  2. Findings from disaggregated analysis of the state 2021 Education Sector Budget, discovered that the 2021 Budget is mostly generic, therefore there is need to create budgetary allocation for girls specific in the state Education budget.
  • Financial backing for the approved budget as the Budget performance shows little releases to the Education Budget.
  1. To have a functional directorate on Girls Education to be headed by a director Girls Education with functions, create more schools for girls in the state as there are in adequacy of such coupled with the current population of girls to be included in 2022 incoming budget.
  2. On the training of newly deployed teachers, the citizens group suggested a separate training for female’s teachers with emphasis on female hygiene.
  3. Female teachers among them need to be posted to Girls Schools to serves as role models.
  • Consider females to be part of management of girl’s schools for example principals, vice principals, senior masters of guidance and counselling mistress.
  • The commissioner in his remark appreciated and commended the citizens group for their selfless and proactive commitment towards uplifting education in the state and promised to look through the request offered and provide the following;
  1. The Ministry will surely establish a unit solely for Girls Education support if not a Directory
  2. Budgetary allocation to Education will receive a boost this coming 2022 Budget, by linking the citizens group demand to be captured into the Ministries Budgetary allocation, the commissioner directed the Budget unit to act on this
  3. The Commissioner directed the citizens group to come up with a Viable proposal for the aforementioned training requirements for possible support and implementation.
  • The commissioner directed the citizens Group to provide his office with the council for approval
