WORLD BANK’S STATE FISCAL TRANSPARENCY ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUSTAINABILITY (SFTAS) PROGRAMME: JIGAWA RECORDS PERFORMANCE IN 12 INDICATORS

Jigawa State recorded good performance related improvements in 12 Disbursement Linked indicators (DLIs). This was disclosed at a retreat on the State Fiscal Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability (SFTAS) Programme Technical Assessment and PFM Action Plan development.

Significant improvements were recorded mainly in the areas of Budget Preparation, Budget Execution; Internal Revenue, Debt Management, Legislative and Institutional Framework and Openness and Transparency. With this development, Jigawa is on track to access up to $6.5million in SFTAS Performance for Reforms grants.

Speaking at the retreat, the State Commissioner for Finance, Mallam Gantsa expressed the resolve of his ministry to drive Public Financial Reforms in the State. In his words, “we have seen what is possible if we continue to strengthen our systems; we will continue on that path.” He further thanked the Department of International Development (DFID)-funded Partnership to Engage, Reform and Learn (PERL) for the technical support it has given to the ministry over the years in achieving transparency and accountability in his processes.”

The Honorable Commissioner tasked the state SFTAS steering committee to support closing the lapses in the PFM practices indicated in the assessment.
