PERL supported virtual dialogue discusses Government Fiscal Policy Decisions in Response to the Fall in Oil Prices and the COVID-19 Pandemic.

In collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning(FMFBNP), DFID - Partnership to Engage, Reform and Learn (PERL) Programme held its first virtual national dialogue session with citizens and media themed “Government Fiscal Policy Decision in Response to the Fall in Oil Prices and the COVID-19 Pandemic.” The event held on the 5th of May 2020 using Webex Event Platform.

The Honourable Minister of Finance, Dr Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed, led the discussions through presentations, while other panellists included the Honourable Minister of State, Budget and National Planning Prince Clem Ikanade Agba, the Director General Budget Office of the Federation, Ben Akabueze, the CEO Nigerian Economic Summit Group, Mr Laoye Jaiyeola. The Group Managing Director of NNPC, Mr Mele Kyari also joined the conversation.

Over a thousand people participated in the session some of whom were Representatives of Civil Society from Nigeria's 6 geopolitical zones of the country, representatives of micro, small medium and large enterprises, the organised private sector, members of the National Assembly, press corps from local and international media, and social media reporters.

Traditional, community and religious groups, professional bodies, development partners, and individuals also participated in the session. The session which lasted for nearly 3 hours covered important aspects of Nigeria's financial future Including Reduction in Customs Revenue from N1.5 Trillion to N1.2 Trillion, Reduction in FAAC Allocations to States and Local Governments, and Ease in Debt Service Pressure.

Dr Zainab thanked DFID and PERL for the support over the years and looks forward to other opportunities for collaboration
