Sustaining reforms in Public Financial Management is on the priority list of the Jigawa State Government, following decades of transformative actions in the planning, budgeting, procurement, revenue management, auditing and financial reporting systems and processes. This was re-echoed on the 18th and 19th of July 2022 as the State Government inaugurated the PFM reform sustainability core group, with membership drawn from all the PFM agencies to continually assess the gains of reforms, the associated challenges and identify opportunities for improvement.

PERL provided technical support to develop the PFM/SFTAS sustainability action plan during a two-day technical session that took place on 18th and 19th of July 2022. At the session, stakeholders deliberated on harnessing the institutional memory of senior officers in the PFM agencies for continuity of reforms. The Hon. Commissioner for Finance and Economic Planning, Hon. Babangida Umar Gantsa, acknowledged the efforts of PERL and the predecessor SPARC and SLGP programs in ensuring that Jigawa remains one of the leading States in implementing PFM reforms in Nigeria. According to him, the State has been able to leverage PERL’s support to adopt best practices and improve transparency and accountability in the PFM processes. In his words, ‘We recognise the importance of this group and have created a budget line in the 2022 budget to fund its activities, with the hope that PERL will continue to provide us with the needed technical support to improve our processes’
