Top government functionaries from Yobe State Executive and the Legislature were in attendance on August 14, 2017 as PERL facilitated a sensitization session for members of the State Steering and Technical Committees on the establishment of Yobe State Bureau of Statistics (YSBS) to sensitize them on the imperatives of establishing a Bureau of Statistics in Yobe State.

The participants, which include the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), four House of Assembly Committee Chairmen (Education, Finance and Appropriation, Health and Public Accounts), and Hon. Commissioners of Agriculture, Budget and Economic Planning, Education, Health, Justice and Water Resources, will now transmit the draft bill for the establishment of Yobe Bureau of Statistics to the State House of Assembly after approval by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Yobe state.

The sensitization is expected to ease the passage of the YSBS bill since the executive and legislature now know the benefit of a State Bureau of Statistics. The action plan developed during the sensitization will guide activities geared towards establishing the State Bureau of Statistics from Submission of the harmonized adopted executive bill by the State Steering Committee to the Office of the SSG, to the passage of the bill by the House of Assembly for assent by the Executive Governor of Yobe State.
