PERL Brief on the High-level Meeting on Engagement in Borno State

The Partnership to Engage, Reform and Learn (PERL) held an interactive session with a delegation from Borno State on Friday July 14, 2017 to introduce PERL to Borno and to identify priority areas where Borno State would like to have support. The high-level meeting had in attendance Commissioner for Water Resources, Borno State, Permanent Secretaries, Directors, Special Assistants to Commissioners, and other top officials from key Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in Borno State. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Department for International Development (DFID) and World Bank.

Opening remarks were made by the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Water Resources, Borno State, Dr. Zainab Gimba; DFID Nigeria’s Governance Adviser for PERL, Chris Okeke; Senior Governance Specialist for the World Bank in Nigeria, Roland Lomme, and PERL’s National Programme Manager, Mark Walker.

In her remarks, the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Water Resources, Borno State, Dr. Zainab Gimba, urged participants to develop a clear and well-articulated action plan based on the state’s needs. She assured DFID and PERL that the state will take advantage of DFID resources and ensure that there is an accountable and capable government in Borno State.

The presentation on Understanding PERL Engagement Approach in Borno State was made by Margarita Aswani, Deputy National Programme Manager, PERL-ARC; and Ishaya Bajama, Head of Technical, PERL-ECP. According to the presentation, PERL will be: Supporting strengthening in service delivery around humanitarian assistance, reconstruction and recovery; and Strengthening coordination in Borno State
