The Kano State Ministry of Planning and Budget, for the first time in 10 years, conducted a joint and inclusive sector performance review of five service delivery sectors. The Ministry was able to conduct this coordinating exercise with support from DFID’s Partnership to Engage, Reform and Learn (PERL).

The exercise, which was held in Zaria, Kaduna State on the 13th and 14th May 2019, was chaired by Alhaji, Shehu Muhammad Na’Allah, the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Planning and Budget. The session had active participation from the key service delivery sectors, State House of Assembly, citizens’ groups, academia, traditional rulers and the State Open Government Partnership (OGP) secretariat.

The key focus of the session was on reviewing Kano State 2018 Budget performance for key service delivery sectors - Health, Education, Agriculture, Environment and Infrastructure; to evaluate impact on citizens’ needs as targeted in the State development plan.

The session ended with a commitment by the Directors Planning, Research and Statistics of each sector Ministry to further collaborate with PERL in producing a clean and final copy of the review.
