Ebonyi State prepared to fully implement World Bank SFTAS Programme

The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry Ebonyi State, Mrs Ugo Nnachi, has assured that Ebonyi State is committed to fully implementing the World Bank State Fiscal Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability (SFTAS) Programme for Results Initiative. The Commissioner gave this assurance in her welcome address at a PERL supported SFTAS Readiness Assessment Workshop for Ebonyi State held in Abakaliki the State capital.

While commending PERL for its unflinching and sustained partnership with the State, the Commissioner, who is also the coordinating commissioner for the SFTAS Programme in the State, underscored the state’s readiness and willingness to leverage the SFTAS Programme to deepen the culture of transparent and accountable governance taking root in the State.

The event took place on 14 – 15 March 2019. Participants reviewed the status of the State in each of the eight Disbursement Linked Indicators of the SFTAS Programme, identifying gaps and actions that the State needs to take in order to be eligible for the grants.

In addition to the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, the event was attended by members of the Ebonyi State Executive Council responsible for various aspects of the SFTAS Programme, including the Commissioners for Finance, Donor and Grant Coordination and Economic Planning. The State Accountant General, Auditor General, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance and over 30 senior civil servants also participated in the event.
